My name is Chris Baldie and I’m a graphic designer and illustrator from Glasgow, Scotland. By day I’m a designer at Papertank, mainly focused on digital product design (apps, websites, system admins, etc) and rapid prototyping in Figma and Webflow. By night, you can find me slumped over my drawing desk, complaining of a sore back while doing nothing to improve my terrible posture. My comics work covers a range of topics and genres, from sprawling sci-fi sagas like Space Captain: Captain of Space to young adult fiction about the trials and tribulations of making new friends through roleplaying games like Rolled a One.
Since 2020 I’ve focused on making projects that interest me personally and perhaps force me to try something new.
We Said Goodbye to Gravity was released in November 2020 as a collection of short comic stories in which each new chapter explores a new storytelling method or artistic style.
Would You Mind Waiting Awhile? was created and released online in 2021 and later printed. It’s a short, intimate comic that I was proud of both as a story and visually, as it was a departure from my usual style.
Jacques and the Great Art Theft
Jacques focuses around a Parisian cat burglar making a big scene at one of the city’s grand galleries. The book is almost entirely dialogue-free and hearkens back to the capers of old European comics and cartoons. The book was released in January 2024.
