and Dr Watson.
Now while I am a big fan of our native Guy Ritchie, I was a bit dubious going to see this movie.
First off, they cast an American as a thoroughly English character. Even with Downey’s remarkable talent, I feel they could have achieved something with a British Actor. Someone unknown and fresh.
And then there’s Jude Law, who I’ve never been entirely sure of, swaying between admiration for parts in films such as The Talented Mr Ripley, I Heart Huckabees and Road to Perdition, and then cringing for other like Alfie, The Sky Captain… and AI.
But to be truthful, I came out of the cinema amused and entertained. It’s not a heart stopping piece of cinema but it knew it wasn’t. Guy Ritchie kept it modest(to a degree) and kept the British edge in a major picture.
My only major gripe is that Rachael McAdams can’t act to save her pretty(average) face.
