Some handy portfolio help.
I was recently invited to an interview with a Glasgow based Consultancy company called HR Consultancy.
While the interview went well and I got a positive feel from it, the Interviewer was also very helpful and pointed me in the direction of some helpful tools.
The best of which has been Behance Creative Portfolio site, which is an interesting way of sharing your portfolio around the net.
I suggest you go have a look for yourself and test it out.
Business Cards

Take one, pass it around…
So I finally took the plunge and got my cards screen printed by Ashton Screen Printing.
They look so crisp and have a really odd (but satisfying) texture from the ink.
Can’t wait to start handing them out.
Photoshoot

So on Monday I held a photoshoot in my flat along with Colleen McMahon (Photographer), Sian Lidgate (make up) and Gemma(model).
It was a fun, laid back and productive shoot.
No commercial purpose, just for fun and to hone various talents.
The theme was a sort of candid party atmosphere.
Here are my results:
Papertank Myspace Design.

I get quite a regular amount of work designing and coding myspaces. It’s a nice little pocket money earner.
I think the concept of bands producing bespoke Myspace designs is HIGHLY underrated, and I’m not just saying that in the vain hope that business increases…
With so much of the music industry going digital these days, showcasing band’s artwork is becoming harder and harder.
I still get excited when I get a new CD; to open it up and flick through the booklet to exam layouts, pictures, lyrics, hidden messages etc…
But with the times moving forward, faster and faster, and Apple raping the industry from the inside out, I fear the way of Artwork may become an endangered species.
I think most Artists will agree that work is definitely slowing down in the Music industry, with only occasional logos, posters or the aforementioned Myspace.
Luckily, there are still some out there like Motive Sounds, who strive to beat the system and create truly mouth watering artwork for their bands.
So with my short rant over, I’ll now plug my business: Papertank Myspace Designs
*Papertank is an old collective I belong to. The other esteemed members including Aberdonia’s own Joanne k. Dodd and Flash Grand Master Liam Peterson Rutherford
*and plaster it around everywhere you know!

and Dr Watson.
Now while I am a big fan of our native Guy Ritchie, I was a bit dubious going to see this movie.
First off, they cast an American as a thoroughly English character. Even with Downey’s remarkable talent, I feel they could have achieved something with a British Actor. Someone unknown and fresh.
And then there’s Jude Law, who I’ve never been entirely sure of, swaying between admiration for parts in films such as The Talented Mr Ripley, I Heart Huckabees and Road to Perdition, and then cringing for other like Alfie, The Sky Captain… and AI.
But to be truthful, I came out of the cinema amused and entertained. It’s not a heart stopping piece of cinema but it knew it wasn’t. Guy Ritchie kept it modest(to a degree) and kept the British edge in a major picture.
My only major gripe is that Rachael McAdams can’t act to save her pretty(average) face.

A devoted Geek.
Another blog I somewhat religiously follow after discovering it through PVP.
Jason is a designer and typographist(my dictionary is telling me that no such word exists) and his work is truly stunning.
Where as his blog is filled with geek filled nostalgia, the oddities of life and more recently; gut-wrenching romantic whining. But she’s French, so I’ll forgive him this minor fault.

Yes? No? Perhaps?
Currently in the process of replenishing business card supplies.
The new design:
The plan is to have them screen printed by a glasgow based printer by the name of Ben Ashton.
But at £80 for 100, im struggling to justify the expense in such tight financial times…

Drawn.ca is a wealth of inspiration
For sometime now, I’ve been a fan of this blog. It has spent a large (too large) a proportion of my time trawling through the archives, following links to various astounding pieces of illustration and animation.
It may be a canadian site, but it’s not based on Canadian work. it’s arms stretch far and wide.
GO! Frolic in it’s beautiful links!

New year resolution:
to not make any resolutions… they just get in the way of work.
